Billy Burke (December 14, 1902 _ April 19, 1972) was a prominent American golfer of the 1930s. His greatest season was 1931, when he won the US Open, reached the semi-finals of the PGA Championship, and won four events on the professional circuit, plus appeared on the Ryder Cup team where he was undefeated in two matches. Subsequently he was selected for the 1933 Ryder Cup team and won his only match.
Mary William Ethelbert Appleton Burke (born August 7, 1884 in Washington D.C. ; died May 14, 1970 in Los Angeles, California) was an actress primarily known to modern audiences for her role as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North in the musical The Wizard of Oz.
Known as BillieBurke, she toured the US and Europe with a circus because her father, BillyBurke, was employed with them as a singing clown.
BillieBurke died in Los Angeles, California of natural causes at the age of 85 in 1970 and was interred at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, New York, survived by her daughter, Patricia, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
BillyBurke stars as young psychiatrist Abe Matthews in the ABC Television Network's new, hour-long medical drama, "Wonderland." The series is set in the fictional New York City Rivervue Hospital, the world's Mecca for psychiatric medicine.
Burke, who was born in Bellingham, Washington, began singing at age 13 and formed his first rock band while attending Sehome High School, where he also performed in his first stage production.
Burke continued to perform; and with a move to Seattle, Washington, he formed another band and honed his skills at writing music and lyrics.
