Bingen is a city located in Klickitat County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 672.

History

Bingen was officially incorporated on April 18, 1924.


Geography

Bingen is located at 45°42'55" North, 121°28'0" West (45.715311, _121.466790)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.9 km˛ (0.7 mi˛). 1.7 km˛ (0.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 10.96% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 672 people, 286 households, and 157 families residing in the city. The population density is 399.2/km˛ (1,032.4/mi˛). There are 327 housing units at an average density of 194.2/km˛ (502.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 72.62% White, 0.30% African American, 3.72% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 17.56% from other races, and 5.06% from two or more races. 25.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 286 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.4% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.1% are non-families. 37.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 3.18.


In the city the population is spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $24,375, and the median income for a family is $27,361. Males have a median income of $27,083 versus $19,886 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,290. 25.4% of the population and 21.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.5% of those under the age of 18 and 26.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
