Birds of Prey is a comic book published by DC Comics that features the adventures of a group of female superheroes who are based in Gotham City. The core members of the group are Oracle (Barbara Gordon, formerly known as Batgirl, who was wheelchair-bound following an attack by The Joker), Black Canary, and The Huntress; other recurring characters include Catwoman and Power Girl. The series was conceived by Jordan Gorfinkle and originally written by Chuck Dixon. As of this writing, it is authored by Gail Simone. Currently, the comic has a very solid following and fanbase.
The comic was also loosely adapted to a television series, Birds of Prey.
Birds of Prey had a busy publishing schedule in 2004 with a bi-weekly schedule for a while resulting in 15 issues, from 61 to 75.
Of interest to golden age fans is Birds of Prey 66 which was a flashback to the original Black Canary with an appearance by one of the finest male sidekicks to a female super hero ever, Larry Lance.
Birds of Prey 68 is a between multi-part story breather issue.
Birds of Prey was a live action American television series produced in 2002.
The Huntress's origin is derived from the original version of the character, not the version appearing in the Birds of Preycomic book: she is Helena Kyle, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, who (in the television series) was raised by her mother without her father ever knowing that she existed.
A major difference between the television version of Huntress and the comic book original is that the TV character possessed a few cat-like superpowers inherited from her mother, who, in the TV series continuity, also had superpowers (in the comics she does not).
