In our early years, at the request of several major chemical and refining companies, we modified residential and commercial type equipment to meet their requirements for special applications, such as explosion proofing for hazardous locations and coatings to protect the coils and metal cases from corrosive salts and gases.
The Birdwell environmental control units were primarily designed for this market, and after many years of use in these harsh conditions, the rugged corrosion resistance, safety and reliability of the systems have proven far superior to the units that were designed for residential and commercial use.
Birdwell units are industrial grade and of all welded and bolted construction.
Birdwell began teaching at M.S.U. in 1966 and retired from the Department of American Thought and Language in July 2001.
Additionally, Dr. Birdwell has performed with many area theatres, including the Okemos Barn Theatre, the Lansing Riverwalk Theatre, the M.S.U. Performing Arts and Summer Circle Theatres, and the BoarsHead professional regional theatre, where she last appeared in their 2001 production of Inherit the Wind.
For the past three years, she has been the faculty resource person for the Friends of Summer Circle trip to the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
