This magnificent temple with great architectural significance was built by the industrialists Birlas about a quarter centuary ago. It is entirely made of marble that has been brought from Rajasthan and is placed on a hillock called the Kala Pahad. The highest tower of the temple reaches a height of 165 feet and the ancillary towers reach about 116 feet. A huge hall Geeta Bhavan is festooned with beautiful paintings illustrating certain scenes from the Indian mythology. A view from the topmost level of the temple provides the manifestation of a breath-taking luxuriance of the city, a multitude of people running to the administrative complexes of the government, the persistent flow of traffic on the Tank Bund, and the newly-built flyovers and the cultural hub of the city Ravindra Bharathi and the NTR Memorial. The temple is dedicated to Venkateshwara Swami, or popularly known as Balaji in the north. The temple manifests a blend of South Indian, Rajasthani and Utkal temple architectures.
