Plot summary

Ryo Murasume is an aircraft pilot, one day he was taking his sister out on a ride when they were shot down. His sister died in the crash, but Ryo survived, near death, the Badan Empire kidnapped him and turned him into the cybernetic warrior known as Kamen Rider ZX(Kamen Riada Ze Kurosu). His memory is erased by the Badan Empire and he is forced to work as their agent of evil. This does not last long as an accident occurs which causes Ryou to regain his memory. He escapes Badan and has an encounter with Kamen Rider V3, Riderman and Kamen Rider Super-1. At first, he believes them to be enemies and attacks them. Eventually he is taken to a hideout of the Kamen Riders and is shown a video detailing the history of Kamen Riders 1 to Super-1.

Characters

• Murasame Ryo/Kamen Rider ZX (仮面ライダーZX, Kamen Raidā Zekurosu^?): Ryo is an aircraft pilot, he lives with his sister and presumed he lived with his parents. He is impulsive and hesitates to trust the Sempai Riders when he first encounters them. He has the most cybernetic body out of any Kamen Rider created thusfar. His body has many hidden abilities reminiscent of a ninja, including shuriken and chain-sickles.

• Kazami Shiro/Kamen Rider V3: He is the oldest Rider to appear out of suit. He is the leader of the Japanese division of the Rider Organization while Kamen Riders 1 and 2 are in America. Apparently the strongest of the Sempai Riders as he was the only one able to hold off ZX.

• Yuki Joji/Riderman: The second oldest Kamen Rider in the special. He is V3's partner in leading the Kamen Riders when Kamen Riders 1 and 2 are away.

• Oki Kazuya/ Kamen Rider Super-1: The youngest of the Sempai Riders, he tried to persuade ZX into joining the riders without having to fight.

Badan Empire

The Badan Empire is an amalgamation of all the previous evil groups. Their leader is actually the Great Leader, the entity who ruled Shocker and almost every evil group to follow.

• Ambassador Darkness: He is the leader of the Badan Empire and the brother of Ambassador Hell. He is a maniacal man who is hellbent on getting what he wants. He was the one that ordered Ryo's plane to be shot down, thus killing his sister.

Trivia

• ZX is pronounced "zecross", not "zee ecks" or "zed ecks", unlike standard English orthography.

• Kamen Rider ZX was the first new Kamen Rider production in four years since Kamen Rider Super-1 went off the air. It also featured the return of Takasugi Shunsuke as Oki Kazuya in his only appearance outside of his own series and movie.

• This would be Akira Yamaguchi's final appearance as Yuki Joji/Riderman in all future media, due to his death (liver cancer) shortly after the special aired.

• Although not appearing onscreen, Sasaki Takeshi returned to voice Kamen Rider 2 in his only speaking line.

• After the special aired, Kamen Rider ZX got his own "picture book manga" that ran for 13 issues spread out over a year. This story expanded the origins and plot of Kamen Rider ZX.

• Kamen Rider ZX was originally meant to run for a full 52 episodes, but was ultimately canned. It is explained in the Kamen Rider V3 DVD North American release that the plan was cancelled due to exceptionally poor ratings received by Kamen Rider series aired in the 80's. Kamen Rider ZX would later return in Kamen Rider BLACK RX; Shun Sugata did not reprise his role as Ryo Murasame.

• Kamen Rider ZX's history was eventually retconned in the continuing Kamen Rider Spirits manga, which extends the war against Badan and features ZX as a villain, leading to several resurrections after his body is destroyed time and time again.

• He is the last first generation Kamen Rider to wear a scarf or any article of loose clothing.
