Szczecin Bismarck Tower

One of the many Bismarck Towers that dot the landscape of the former German Kaiserreich (as well as countries such as the USA, South Africa, Australia, and Argentina) is located in Szczecin, Poland (Stettin in German). Located 150 kms from Berlin, this picturesque Polish city has something extra to offer: a tower built in dedication to Otto von Bismarck. This article or section should include material from German Monarchy The term German Empire (the translation from German of Deutsches Reich) commonly refers to Germany, from its consolidation as a unified nation-state on January 18, 1871, until the abdication of Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm II on November 9, 1918. ... Szczecin (pronounce: [ʃʧɛtɕin], Latin: Stetinum or Scecinum, also Sedinum; Kashubian/Pomeranian Sztetëno; German: Stettin, formerly Alten Stettin) is the 7th largest city in Poland and the second largest Polish seaport on the Baltic. ... Alternative meanings: See Bismarck (disambiguation). ...

The tower is 25 metres tall. Its construction began in 1913 and was finished in 1921. The total contruction cost was approximately 200, 000 marks.

The tower is located on top of a small hill and is surrounded by a small forest. This small nature area is surrounded, however, by an industrial area. It is approximately 6 kms from the city centre. To get there, take tram nummer 6. Tram number 6’s end station is literally at the base of the small hill where the tower stands. One can also very easily follow the tram tracks in a car or by bicycle.

Although one can visit the tower, the main entry way is fully sealed off, as are all windows, making entry impossible. It is also in need of restoration. Nonetheless, it remains in decent condition and another sight to see in Szczecin.
