In this book, Smith sought to explain the reasons why his government delcared its UDI, and how Rhodesia coped in the face of sanctions and terrorism until the pressures orced him and his government to accede to the wishes of his adversaries. Smith points to the current chaotic situation in Zimbabwe as proof that he was trying to prevent Rhodesia from suffering the same fate as other African states. The Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) was declared on November 11, 1965 by the white minority regime of Ian Smith, whose Rhodesian Front party opposed moves by the United Kingdom towards black majority rule in the then British colony. ...
