Blackburn with Darwen (Dwrgwyn) is a borough in Lancashire, North West England. It consists of Blackburn, the small town of Darwen to the south of it, and the surrounding countryside. It was founded in 1974 as the Lancashire borough of Blackburn, from the County Borough of Blackburn, the Borough of Darwen, and parts of Turton Urban District (chiefly the villages of Belmont, Chapeltown and Edgworth) and Blackburn Rural District. This Church was built by subscription in 1791, but the Vicar of Blackburn refused to certify it for consecration.
On 20th December 1829 the Church was consecrated by the Vicar of Blackburn.
This chapel was constituted in 1778 and consisted of the Blackburn portion of the Tockholes congregation and about 20 Blackburn families who attended Lower Chapel, Darwen.
