Scanning the Tasmanian EDACS System (3819 words)
Add to this the fact that the Tasmania Police Service use digital scrambling for the majority of their transmissions, and there are other data transmissions also sent over the voice frequencies, you will quickly tire of listening in to all the hissing, buzzing, beeping and blipping just to be able to hear someone speak.
Getting back to the installation of EDACS in Tasmania, the original specification was to provide handheld coverage to 90% of the State (95% for a mobile) with some exemptions for remote unpopulated areas.
The biggest hurdle to scanning the Tasmania Police is their use of Aegis digital voice transmissions.
