Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller was born Blanchette Ferry Hooker on October 2, 1909 in New York City. She was the daughter of Elon Hooker, founder of Hooker Electorchemical Company, and the former Blanche Ferry.


Mrs. Rockefeller graduated from Vassar College in 1931, with a B.A. in music. On November 11, 1932, she married John D. Rockefeller III at Riverside Church in New York City. They had four children: Senator John D. Rockefeller IV (born June 18, 1937), Sandra Rockefeller, Hope Rockeller and Alida Rockefeller.


The Rockefellers maintained homes in New York City and at Fieldwood Farm in Mt.Pleasant, Westchester County, New York.


Mrs. Rockefeller devoted her time to community service, education, and the arts, in particular the collection of Asian and American art.


Blanchette Rockefeller died on November 29, 1992 in New York City from pneumonia, a complication of Alzheimer's Disease. The Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute in Morgantown, West Virginia is named in her honor.
