History
Image:BTC Logo Full Official.jpg The Blank's Logo The Blank Theatre Company was founded in 1990 as a non-profit corporation by its current Artistic Director/Producer Daniel Henning. With a BFA from New York University, Mr. Henning moved to Los Angeles and saw an opportunity to increase the quality of theatre in town. So at the age of 24, with settlement money from an assault he suffered in New York City, he started The Blank Theatre Company. In the past sixteen years, The Blank has won every major theatre production award in Los Angeles, raised thousands of dollars for worthy charities and produced 30 Mainstage Productions. The Blank Theatre Company also created its annual Nationwide Young Playwrights Festival (2007 will marks the Festival’s 15th anniversary) which has aided and encouraged 160 playwrights aged nineteen and younger. The Blank also presents its Living Room Series, workshop presentations of plays; most of which are new works. The series allows theatre artists a chance to perform their skills in a safe and nurturing environment. The Living Room Series culminates in a Monday night performance and is presented nearly every Monday night Labor Day to Memorial Day. In April 1996, The Blank Theatre Company took up residence at the 49-seat 2nd Stage Theatre in Hollywood. The 2nd Stage Theatre is located at 6500 Santa Monica Blvd at the corner of Santa Monica and Wilcox in Hollywood.
Mission The Blank’s mission is to produce either premieres or “reinventions” of previously produced materials. The productions must be innovative and provocative and of the highest artistic quality.
