Blavod (blah-VOD) is an 80-proof vodka from the United Kingdom with a slight twist. This vodka is the only black vodka in the world. The black coloring comes from a Burmese herb named Black Catechu. This herb is easily found in the wild and is infused with Blavod yet doesn't lay waste to the principles of vodka, i.e. being oderless and colorless. Because catechu doesn't stain or leave a trace of other flavors it always gives at true pure effortless finish. Black Catechu

Blavod get's it's unique coloring from Black Catechu - the resin of the hearthwood of the Acacia catechu, a tree from India and Burma. Catechu has been used for hundreds of years as a natural ingredient in herbal medicines. There is just enough in Blavod to give it the black coloring but doesn't interfere with the palate.

Blavod has been getting a lot of attention on the West Coast of America in hip and goth clubs alike. It is a good substitute from classic martini's while exclusive martini's and shoots are coming out as well. For example the, Rotten Apple Martini, from the Swig Martini in Florida, is a blend of Blavod, Apple Schnapps, and Jagermiester. A true classic with a Blavod twist. Reviews

Blavod is more than just a novelty product however. It came with a very high rating from the prestigious Beverage Tasting Institute while getting a footnote in the review, "Far more than just a designer/novelty product, this is a very good vodka." And even according to the vodka expert Robert Plotkin, who is the author of "The Original Guide to American Cocktails and Drinks", said, "Even blindfolded, most enthusiasts would be hard pressed to distinguish Blavod Vodka from other well-known imports. But who drinks with there eye's shut? Grab a bottle and let the magic work."
