The school was founded in 1883 by the Southern German Conference of the Methodist denomination under the name of Mission Institution. In 1889 the name was changed to Blinn Memorial College in honor of the Reverend Christian Blinn of New York, who had donated a considerable sum of money to make the school possible. Blinn College was made coeducational in 1888. Blinn College and Sam Houston State University proudly present a cooperative program allowing a student to complete the Associate of Science degree at Blinn College and utilize the majority of course work to complete the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at SHSU.
The Associate of Science degree at Blinn College requires a minimum of sixty-two (62) college credit hours with at least 30 academic hours in residence, fifteen (15) of which must be at the sophomore level with an overall GPA of 2.0.
