There were 373 housing units at an average density of 169.4/km² (436.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.24% White, 5.28% African American, 0.36% Native American, 1.32% from other races, and 1.80% from two or more races. Annual rainfall is less than geographic areas within a fifty mile radius of Blooming Grove due to rotational weather patterns caused by the jet stream and prevalent southwest winds. Blooming Grove, also known as Gradyville, is on State Highway 22 and Farm Road 55 fifteen miles west of Corsicana in northwestern Navarro County.
Central Texas College, a junior college, was opened at Blooming Grove under the auspices of the Corsicana Methodist Conference in 1902 but closed in 1912 because of mismanagement.
By 1900 Blooming Grove was a shipping and trade center for the surrounding area and depended mainly on agriculture for its economy.
