Blue Mountain is a town located in Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 233.


Geography

Blue Mountain is located at 33°41'19.028" North, 85°50'15.277" West (33.688619, _85.837577)1.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛). 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 233 people, 104 households, and 56 families residing in the town. The population density is 999.6/km˛ (2,670.4/mi˛). There are 125 housing units at an average density of 536.3/km˛ (1,432.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 76.82% White, 14.59% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.30% from other races, and 0.43% from two or more races. 6.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 104 households out of which 19.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.7% are married couples living together, 16.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.2% are non-families. 42.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 3.04.


In the town the population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 67.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 69.7 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $25,357, and the median income for a family is $26,875. Males have a median income of $18,750 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the town is $32,579. 29.4% of the population and 14.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 45.5% of those under the age of 18 and 27.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
