Blue Ridge is a city located in Collin County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 672.


Geography

Blue Ridge is located at 33°17'57" North, 96°24'6" West (33.299206, _96.401616)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.7 km˛ (0.7 mi˛). 1.7 km˛ (0.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 672 people, 233 households, and 177 families residing in the city. The population density is 393.1/km˛ (1,019.2/mi˛). There are 259 housing units at an average density of 151.5/km˛ (392.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 93.45% White, 0.15% African American, 0.74% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.17% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 6.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 233 households out of which 45.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 15.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.33.


In the city the population is spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 14.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.0 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $35,714, and the median income for a family is $42,778. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $26,979 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,397. 9.5% of the population and 8.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.0% of those under the age of 18 and 27.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Blue Ridge, on Farm Road 1771 about ten miles east of Marlin in eastern Falls County, takes its name from a series of low hills in the area.
A post office was established at Blue Ridge in 1854 and discontinued in 1857.
