Bo Pi was a bureaucrat in the state of Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period. Although his grandparent was lord in the state of Chu, he served in the state of Wu and was a favorite advisor in the palace. After the victory against the state of Yue, Bo Pi was corrupted by his enemy. As a result, King Fu Chai of Wu made peace with the state of Yue. It was also his suggestion that Wu Zixu, an outstanding politician in Wu, be executed. After his state was annexed by Yue, he surrendered to his enemy. Coming back to Bo Pi, it was natural for Wu Zixu to sympathise with Bo Pi given the similar circumstances that led to them becoming refugees and their respective fathers being killed by King Ping of Chu and Wa Nang (premier of Chu).
Bo Pi was badly beaten by the Chu general Zi Xi (子西) and had to be rescued by Wu Zixu.
Bo Pi was responsible for losing more than 8000 of the 10,000 troops he led.
