In their many years on the show, the couple has survived plenty of tragedy. Hope's four year disapparance (1990-1994) and subsequent amnesia led to an identity crisis in 1999 when she thought that she was a Princess. The couple faced some problems with Bo's struggle to find his daughter Georgia and his constant attention of Billie Reed. In 2000, Hope gave birth to a son that was switched at birth with another baby. The couple discovered in 2002 that their son J.T. Brady was really the biological son of Glen Reiber and that Issac Carver, who was the adopted son of Abe & Lexie Carver, was actually their biological son. J.T. Brady was returned to Glen and his wife Barb and Issac was returned to Bo & Hope and renamed Zack. In addition, Bo & Hope have struggled with obsessive ex-spouses; Hope's ex-husband Larry Welch broke out of prison and kidnapped her in 2002 and Bo's ex-wife Billie Reed has constantly plotted to break up the couple over the years. Bo & Hope are the parents of Shawn Brady born (Apr 1987) and Zack Brady born (Jun 2000). Bo Brady also has a daughter with Billie Reed who was born by the name of Georgia but is now know as Chelsea Benson.

Bo & Hope's romance has been on and off since 1983. The couple were married from May 1985 to 1995; then from Dec 2000 to the present. On January 11th, 2006, the supercouple's strength was tested with the loss of their youngest child, Zack, who was taken off of life support after a hit and run accident. The driver of the car that hit Zack turned out to be Bo's daughter Chelsea. This tragic incident has caused a major rift between the couple. Many fans were supportive of both the realistic storyline and Kristian Alfonso's depiction of a mother losing a child.
