Three years later, after his hiring, his predecessor John Tesh had left the show on May 30, 1996, to pursue his music career, and at that time, Goen was promoted to work with Mary Hart. When he enjoyed working on his very first day with ET, his charismatic reporting and charm gave him the impression of interviewing mostly of celebrities and musicians, from Nicole Kidman to Sir Elton John, among many others. In 1999, he even made guest appearances on 2 separate movies on the set of ET. On September 11, 2001, amongst fellow reporters, he also covered the World Trade Center. A couple of years later, he even called actress Suzanne Somers over to interview her about the death of beloved actor John Ritter. In August 2004, after 11 years of serving as anchor on the set, he left to not only spend more time with his new marriage, but he also wanted to pursue other projects.
