Robert "Bob" Homme, CM , B.Sc was an American-born television actor perhaps best known as the eponymous host of The Friendly Giant, a popular Canadian children's television program in the 1960s and 1970s which was broadcast on the CBC. He was invested into the Order of Canada as a Member on November 2nd 1998 at Rideau Hall allowing him to use the Post Nominal Letters "C.M." A creation of Bob Homme, the program began at a small commercial TV station in Wisconsin in 1954.
He would invite them to have a seat: "One little chair for one of you, and a bigger chair for two to curl up in, and for someone who likes to rock, a rocking chair in the middle." Then: "Look up, look wa-a-ay upÂ…" and there was Friendly, soon joined by Rusty and Jerome.
