Encyclopedia > Bobbie Wickham

Roberta 'Bobbie' Wickham is a rather troublesome female who pops up every now and then in PG Wodehouse's Jeeves stories. She is a redheaded lass, a particularly sly and gamesome girl; very good at thinking up practical jokes which often result in general pandemonium. Called English literatures performing flea, P. G. Wodehouse, pictured in 1904, became famous for his complex plots, ingenious wordplay, and prolific output. ... Reginald Jeeves, here portrayed by Stephen Fry in ITVs Jeeves and Wooster series, is P. G. Wodehouses most famous character. ...

On more than one occasion does Bertie Wooster become enamoured of her, and his valet Jeeves, realising that she might be a little too independent and wild for Bertie to tame her, has had to get him out of the daft scrape she has connived him into being a part of. The most notable of these schemes was the affair with the pierced hot water bottles in her parents house. She also used her womanly charms to get Bertie to mind her niece, Clementina, a girl with a ferocious appetite, whilst she took part in the South Hertfordshire Women's Tennis Tournament, and also to get him to drive her back to school, when he was arrested for being on private property. Bobbie didn't even bat and eyelid, let alone apologise, and Bertie generally parted company with her. Critics saw Bertie Wooster, here portrayed by Hugh Laurie in ITVs Jeeves and Wooster series, as detrimental to the worldwide image of a young British man. ... Clementina is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. ... Hertfordshire (pronounced Hartfordshire and abbreviated as Herts) is an inland county in the United Kingdom, officially part of the East of England Government region. ...

Bobbie Wickham also appears in several of the Mr Mulliner stories. Mr Mulliner is a fictional character from the short stories and novels of P. G. Wodehouse, who is widely regarded as one of the great comic writers of the 20th century, once described as English literatures performing flea. ...

How Right You Are, Jeeves   from Great Shavers (1326 words)
Add to the usual mix a certain Bobbie Wickham, a former dreaded headmaster with a grudge, a kleptomaniac playboy who reads poetry and rescues drowning dachshunds, and the loony-doctor Sir Roderick Glossop incognito as a butler named Swordfish, and you have a tale of true genius.
The primary disappointment is the lack of Jeeves, who is only present for a very small fraction of the book, depriving us of the delightful interaction between the two principals that we have come to treasure so much.
However, Bobbie Wickham's exasperating sense of humor and Bertie's new friendship with Sir Roderick make this one a pure gem.
