Thompson went undrafted upon leaving college, and was not signed by a professional team until 2004, when the Revolution signed him as a developmental player. Thompson did not, however, see any playing time with the Revs in 2004.
Thompson sang with the Boston College a cappella group, the Bostonians, during his senior year, and has written songs and played guitar since his freshman year of college.
Thompson, a Globe All-Scholastic and team captain in high school, said he found himself loving the idea of perfecting something again with his music, ''just like when I used to juggle the soccer ball for hours on end.
Thompson, who lives in Framingham and is one of David and Gail Thompson's five children, said he has his parents' support in his new career.
