Bockenem is a town in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, Germany that was founded in 1154. It has a population of around 5,000. 10,000 when including surrounding villages. It is twinned with Güntersberge in Germany, Zawadzkie in Poland and United Kingdom.

Bockenem is in the Hildesheim Landkreiss district (roughly equivalent to an English county) of Lower Saxony.
Bockenem itself is smaller than Thornbury but within the arca administered by the Town Council there are 17 villages and hamlets which bring the total population nearer to that of Thornbury.
Bockenem is a town which has grown with new residential development, and also like Thornbury there is an industrial estate at one of the town.

Bockenem 2003 - 31.1.2003 - 9.2.2003 This year's exchange consisted of 26 Castle School students.
There the German teachers were waiting for us already and by the time we got to Wilhelm-Busch Realschule in Bockenem, German partners and their families were very excited about our arrival (a day late!!) and were eager to finally meet their English partners.
Wednesday was the day we visited the school, where we were greeted by the Headmaster, and after that the students spent their day (which finishes at 1.20) in lessons with their partners.
