Boden is a Municipality in Norrbotten County, in northern Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 4296.7 km². Of the total population of 28,679, 14,121 are male, and 14,558 are female. The population density of the community is 7 inhabitants per km².


The city of Boden started as a railway junction on the Northern Line (Norra Stambanan) and received its privileges in 1919. The city boosted when the Boden Fortress, the very strong border fortification, was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. Today Boden still houses the largest garrison of the Swedish Army.
