Raspe had apparently become acquainted at Gottingen with Hieronymus Karl Friedrich, Freiherr von Munchhausen, of Bodenwerder in Hanover.
His stories became a byword among his circle, and Raspe, when hard up fur a living in London, utilized the suggestion for his little brochure.
