Body substance isolation is a practice of isolating all body substances (blood, urine, feces, tears, etc.) of individuals undergoing medical treatment, particularly emergency medical treatment of those who might be infected with illnessess such as HIV, or hepatitis so as to reduce as much as possible the chances of transmitting these illnesses. BSI is similar in nature to universal precautions, but goes further in isolating substances not currently known to carry HIV.
The guard as set forth in claim 1 wherein said isolating means includes a tab disposed at the anterior end of said guard for enclosing the anterior end of said guard prior to use of the needle and for developing an aperture in the anterior end of said guard.
A yet further object of the present invention is to provide guards for bodysubstanceisolation of both ends of a single hypodermic needle detachably attachable to a syringe.
Since it is not unusual for a fluid or bodysubstance to be coated upon the needle or drip from the point of the needle, containment of such fluid or bodysubstance must be assured.
