Bollnäs is a Municipality in Gävleborg County, in east central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 1827.1 km². Of the total population of 26735, 13238 are male, and 13497 are female. The city of Bollnäs received its privileges in 1942 when the towns of Bollnäs and Björkhamre merged. Today it has a population of 13,490 (1996). Bollnäs is a station along the Northern Railline (Norra Stambanan) but has never served any higher purposes more than as a centre of trade for the surrounding lands.
