Boonah is a town of approximately 3000 persons 84 km south-west of Brisbane, Queensland. Its name is Aboriginal Australian and means bloodwood tree.


It is the hub of a large agricultural area, including cattle, cereal grains, carrots, potatoes and timber.


It is also nearby to several National Parks including Main Range National Park, Moogerah Peaks National Park, Mount French National Park as well as Lake Moogerah, which is popular with tourists.


Nearby also is Boys Town, a juvenile detention centre where young male offenders learn farming skills.

Boonah is situated 40 kms south of the major city of Ipswich, which is just west of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland.
Boonah has a very good town spirit and there are regular street parades and community events like the Annual Show, Church Fetes and the Christmas Parade.
