Boothstown is a suburb of Greater Manchester, in Salford, England, within the United Kingdom. Boothstown - Lords and Manor (2974 words)
The part of Boothstown to the east of Stirrup brook was historically part of the Worsley manor.
Manorial jurisdiction declined, and from 1884 the village was divided administratively by Stirrup Brook, with the west side lying in the Urban District Council of Tyldesley, and the east being part of the Urban District of Worsley.
In fact the part of Boothstown village close to the brook, near the cotton mill, was known as Stirrup Brook during the 19th century.
Boothstown - Mining and the Bridgewater Canal (1588 words)
Evidence of coal mining around Boothstown dates to the 14th century, and leases for coal extraction are evident from around 1500.
The coal seam running from Boothstown to Worsley is called the Four Feet Seam, and it was exploited because of its proximity to the canal.
