Borders Books and Music (NYSE: BGP (http://www.nyse.com/about/listed/lcddata.html?ticker=BGP)) is a North American chain of bookstores, with some branches overseas. Borders is (as of 2004) the second-largest bookstore chain in the United States, selling a wide range of books, CDs and DVDs, plus related accessories. Borders stores frequently feature coffee bars or snack shops.
The original Borders bookstore is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where it was founded in 1971 by brothers Tom and Louis Borders. The Borders brothers' inventory system tailored each store's offerings to the community it was in. This may have contributed to the chain's rapid expansion nationwide. K-Mart acquired Borders and its rival Waldenbooks in 1994, but a stock buyback enabled Borders and Waldenbooks to form its own corporation, the Borders Group. There are now approximately 420 Borders stores across the United States, with another 35 outside the country.
Borders received a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index released by the Human Rights Campaign starting in 2004, the third year of the report.
Unions
Borders retail employees at two store locations in Minneapolis_St. Paul and Ann Arbor are currently represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW). A hebaceous border is a narrow strip of plants along the edge of a garden path or a lawn or fence.
A thing can be said to be on the border if it lies in a grey area at the edge of a category or condition or borderline between two different situations but not clearly in one or the other.
The Bordercountry is the an area of Lowland Scotland on the border between Scotland and England.
A Border Collie is a hard-working herding breed of dog that originated in the bordercountry of England and Scotland.
Many Border Collies end up in shelters or rescue groups because families, attracted by their appearance, discover that they cannot provide the attention and effort required for this driven, active, easily bored breed—though this problem can be alleviated by giving the dog lots of mental and physical stimulation.
Border Collies love to play and do not always know when to stop on their own; owners must ensure that they do not overexert themselves, especially in hot weather, which can be dangerous.
