The melody, lyrics and vocals to the song reference John Lennon and the Beatles heavily. Lennon is often acknowleged as a huge influence and hero of Gallagher, to the extent that he often dresses like Lennon and, for a time, claimed to be Lennon reincarnated (despite being born eight years prior to Lennon's death). Liam has said that some of the lyrics were inspired by Frederick Seaman's book Living On Borrowed Time. The line "It's no surprise to me/That your classless, clever and free" is adapted from Lennon's "Working Class Hero", and the line "Breaking up your Mother's Pride" also seems to be a nod to working class mentality (Mother's Pride being both a reference to a cheap brand of bread and the steriotypical matriarchal Northern mother). The line "living on borrowed time/your my son and your gonna shine" is also a direct reference to Lennon's song "Borrowed Time" from the posthumous album Milk and Honey. "Loaded just like a gun" is likely to be a reference to the Beatles song "Happiness is a Warm Gun," as is the line "busy working overtime."
