Borongan City (November 14) — In line with the celebration of 42nd Founding anniversary of the Province of Eastern Samar, the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar sponsored a “Jobs Fair” on November 6-8, 2007 which fast tracked the meeting of job seekers and employers/overseas recruitment agencies in only one venue at a specific date.
Thus, for Eastern Samar, she was happy to note that it held the first ever Provincial Anti-Poverty Summit, where the province’s top priority problems were given attention to.
Before she even went to Borongan City for the Founding Anniversary Celebration of the Province, the President inspected first the P20M road project in Jipapad, the tip most town which is one of the most depressed areas of the province.

Since that account, historians have described this part of Samar Island as the “eastern gateway to the Philippines” the coast of this small province faces the Pacific Ocean and much of the land is rugged with the vast parts forested.
As embodied in this Act, the eastern province is composed of 23 municipalities with Borongan as the capital.
The eastern part of the island was known as Ibabao and distinct from Samar which was the name of the western part.
