Borovnica is a short comic published in a Croatian children's magazine entitled "Modra Lasta". Created in 1992 by author Darko Macan, Borovnica was originally printed in black and white, yet appeared in color years later. Each comic usually consists of six frames. Darko Macan (born 1966) is an author and illustrator who has created and collaborated on comics, essays and science fiction and fantasy. ...


Characters

Borovnica: Her name means "blueberry" in croatian. Her clothing consists of a pink dress with black spots. Her hair is drawn as a big black ball with a ponytail. Her personality is dark, angry, and rude. She is afraid of spiders and, despite her personality, has lots of friends. The victims of her pranks are usually teachers, her father, or the character Oraščić.


Oraščić: His name means "small nut" in croatian. He is the most common victim of Borovnica's pranks. His clothing consists of a T-shirt with white and orange stripes, and black trousers.


Teacher: She is usually drawn wearing a blue shirt. She has blonde hair and dislikes Borovnica.


Spider: The enemy of Borovnica. Oraščić introduced the spider to Borovnica, but her fear of spiders caused her to kick him, leaving one of his legs in Oraščić's hand. Since that moment the spider has sought revenge for the loss of his leg.


Stories

Borovnica usually has one joke in comic over one page, but sometimes a few jokes become connected story. For example: Borovnica got lost in the forest once and joined the wolwes and after that got back in the civilization. In another story she left her comic, forcing creator to have auditions for new Borovnica character. In another one she argued with her dad over pop-corns.

Borovnica was under Italians and they build a steel constuction over the ruined part of viaduct (see GM6.jpg.) There were several bomb attacks on viaduct in 26th and 27th September 1944.
The 340th Bombardment Group mission list shows two different missions to bomb Borovnica on December 27, 1944 in addition to the one my father flew on December 28, 1944.

According to Stanič [stj05], the municipal symbols of Borovnica were already used when the current municipality was still a part of Vrhnika, from which it seceded in 1995.
The center of Borovnica is dominated by a column, that is the remains of the 500-m long masonry railway viaduct, which was considered among the greatest building achievements of the XIXth century.
The coat of arms of Borovnica shows that column, as well as the silhouette of the former viaduct, which was bombed down in the Second World War.
