General Description Boudicca's Revolt occurred around 50 A.D. in Britain. Boudicca was the Queen of the Iceni Tribe, newly conquered by the Romans. After her two daughters were raped and Boudicca herself was beaten by Roman soldiers, she raised an army of close to 100,000 men and women. The primary battle took place on the Isle of Anglesey , resulting in a crushing defeat of Boudicca's army. However, there was such a large amount of blood spilled on both sides that the Romans did not return to the spot of the battle for at least one generation. Widely revered as a symbol against Roman oppression, Boudicca disappeared from the historical record after her defeat. Popular belief states that she killed both of her daughters and then took her own life, rather than being captured by the Romans . The defeat at Anglesey effectively ended Celtic resistance to Roman occupation.
