Boulder County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of 2000, the population is 291,288. The county seat is Boulder.


Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,946 km˛ (751 mi˛). 1,923 km˛ (742 mi˛) of it is land and 23 km˛ (9 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.19% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 291,288 people, 114,680 households, and 68,808 families residing in the county. The population density is 151/km˛ (392/mi˛). There are 119,900 housing units at an average density of 62/km˛ (162/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 88.54% White, 0.88% Black or African American, 0.61% Native American, 3.06% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 4.67% from other races, and 2.18% from two or more races. 10.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 114,680 households out of which 30.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.90% are married couples living together, 7.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.00% are non-families. 26.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.03.


In the county the population is spread out with 22.90% under the age of 18, 13.40% from 18 to 24, 33.60% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 7.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 102.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.70 males.


The median income for a household in the county is $55,861, and the median income for a family is $70,572. Males have a median income of $48,047 versus $32,207 for females. The per capita income for the county is $28,976. 9.50% of the population and 4.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.60% of those under the age of 18 and 5.90% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
