Boulder Junction is a town located in Vilas County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 958.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 260.0 km˛ (100.4 mi˛). 212.2 km˛ (81.9 mi˛) of it is land and 47.8 km˛ (18.5 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 18.40% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 958 people, 445 households, and 303 families residing in the town. The population density is 4.5/km˛ (11.7/mi˛). There are 1,407 housing units at an average density of 6.6/km˛ (17.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 98.23% White, 0.00% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 445 households out of which 20.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 28.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.62.


In the town the population is spread out with 17.4% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 20.3% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 25.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.8 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $34,722, and the median income for a family is $41,029. Males have a median income of $30,750 versus $25,556 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,678. 3.9% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Continue west out of Boulder Junction on Highway K for 3 miles to Wool Lake Lane.
