It has several well respected[citation needed] departments including The School of Health and Social Care, The School of Services Management, The Business School, School of Design, Engineering & Computing and the Media School,[2] recognised as the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice.[3] In 2009 the University will have a four star training hotel for students within the School of Services Management, it will be the first in the UK. Campuses Bournemouth University has two campuses: Talbot Campus and Lansdowne Campus. Talbot Campus is situated in Poole, on the boundary with Bournemouth. It is where the main University buildings are located, including the students' union and the main library. There is also a doctor's surgery, Dylan's and D2 bars, student refectory, Uni shop, Barclays Bank, Waterstones and Endsleigh Insurance situated on campus. Lansdowne Campus is just outside Bournemouth's town centre, with the University buildings spread out along Christchurch Road. Unlike Talbot, Lansdowne is not a self-contained campus. The fact that the main campus is located in Poole, a large port town and only slightly smaller than Bournemouth in terms of population, has prompted a discussion that the institution's name could be changed to the more accurate University of Dorset instead. However, this is problematic considering that both Poole and Bournemouth are now unitary authorities outside the local government auspices of Dorset County Council, although their cermonial county is still Dorset.
Industrial Relations. Bournemouth University has a poor recent record of industrial relations, stemming from its insistence on implementing local arrangements for staff, and breaching the nationally agreed terms and conditions. This has culminated in recent weeks with the announcement of the redundancy of 50 academic staff and their replacement by 30 others. Trades unions at the University are fighting to reverse the decision, and call on all trades unionists to support their struggle.
Schools Bournemouth University is currently divided into the following schools: - The Media School - home to the National Centre for Computer Animation
- The School of Conservation Sciences
- The School Design, Engineering & Computing
- The Business School
- The School of Health and Social Care
- The School of Services Management - home to the International Centre for Tourism & Hospitality Research
