Boutersem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Boutersem proper, Kerkom, Neervelp, Roosbeek, Vertrijk and Willebringen. On January 1st, 2004 Boutersem had a total population of 7,525 (3,748 males and 3,777 females). The total area is 30.75 kmē which gives a population density of 244.70 inhabitants per kmē.
Boutersem bestaat 6 leefkernen : Boutersem, Vertrijk, Roosbeek, Kerkom, Willebringen en Neervelp.
Boutersem situeert zich op de as Leuven-Tienen en wordt begrensd door Lubbeek in het noorden, Tienen in het oosten, Hoegaarden in het zuiden en Bierbeek in het westen.
Boutersem ligt tussen twee geografische streken : Hageland en Droog-Haspengouw.
