See also Windermere, Florida and Windermere, Seattle, Washington. Bowness was also a town in Alberta, Canada which was annexed by the city of Calgary in the 1960s.

Windermere is a town in Cumbria, England, lying above the lake of the same name. Bowness, is the older, lakeside area of the town (not to be confused with Bo'ness in Scotland). The town possesses a couple of museums, but the main draw for its many tourists is the lake. Ferries from the town's piers sail around the lake, many calling at Ambleside or Sawrey.
