Encyclopedia > Bracket (tournament)

In tournaments, "bracket" is commonly used to refer to the diagrammatic representation of the series of games played during the tournament.

There are several kinds of brackets, adapted to different types of tournaments. Single elimination brackets are used, for example, in tennis tournaments and in the NCAA basketball tournament. Double elimination brackets are used, for example, in 9-ball tournaments.
