Encyclopedia > Brad Davis (basketball player)

Brad Davis (born December 17, 1955 in Rochester, Pennsylvania) was a basketball player who spent the bulk of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks.

After attending the University of Maryland, Davis was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 1977 NBA Draft. In 1980, Davis was picked up by the expansion Mavericks, where he would spend the rest of his career. Davis was an average NBA player, averaging less than 10 points per game for his career, but his drive and love for the community made him a fan favorite.

In April 1992, Davis retired after 15 NBA seasons as the final Maverick from the team's first season. That same year, on November 14, Davis became the first Maverick to have his jersey retired when his #15 was raised to the rafters of Reunion Arena.

In 1993, Davis became an assistant coach under Dick Motta. At the same time, he also took a position as a color commentator for Mavericks television games and then later on the radio. Davis currently serves as the team's color commentator on the radio and also as the Mavericks' player development coach and community services representative.
