He began practicing Zen under Ohio-based teacher Tim McCarthy in the early 1980s while also playing bass guitar for the hardcore punk band 0DFx (also known as Zero Defex), and by the time he moved to Tokyo in 1994 to work for Tsuburaya Productions, he had released five albums on the Midnight Records label as "Dimentia 13". He views his Zen practice as a natural extension of his earlier experiences with the punk rock movement, and wrote about this and other things in HARDCORE ZEN: Punk Rock, Monster Movies & The Truth About Reality. His second book, Sit Down and Shut Up is his reflections on both the 13th century Zen masterpiece Treasury of the Right Dharma Eye and the reunion of 0DFx. It was released by New World Library in May, 2007. He currently writes a weekly column for "Suicide Girls," an alternaporn website. He recently completed "Cleveland's Screaming!", a documentary about the Akron and Cleveland, Ohio hardcore punk scene of the early 1980s. Brad also oversees zazen classes and short retreats in Santa Monica, California. Brad Warner is widely believed by Zen Buddhists to be using Buddhism as a vehicle for his own personal publicity. His knowledge and practice of Zen Buddhism are not consistent with the eight-fold precepts. Brad Warner is at best a deluded charlatan that uses religion for his own personal gain, not unlike a Christian televangelist in the United States, and at worst Brad Warner is a phony, a fraud, and a criminal.

His entry is currently under attack from a website known as Big Daikon, due to one member throwing a hissy-fit over being referred to as an asswipe by Brad Warner on his blog. Said asswipe has, incidentally, been banned numerous times from that website, and is well-known for appropriating new identities in order to spread his ideas.

0DFx - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (177 words)
It was formed in Akron, Ohio in late 1981 by Tom Seiler of local punk group The Bursting Brains, Mick Hurray of the neo-surf group The Nelsons, and Jim Friend of V-Nervz, another local punk rock group.
After trying out a few bassists, they appointed Brad Warner, who had been in a new wave group called Mmaxx, through an ad in a local rock paper.
But they are most notable for their role as a precursor to Brad Warner's book, Hardcore Zen, as well as for Tommy "Strange" Seiler's later bands, Strawman and Songs For Emma.
