Braintree is a town located in Orange County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,194.
Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 99.2 km˛ (38.3 mi˛). 99.1 km˛ (38.3 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,194 people, 482 households, and 325 families residing in the town. The population density is 12.0/km˛ (31.2/mi˛). There are 567 housing units at an average density of 5.7/km˛ (14.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 98.41% White, 0.00% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 482 households out of which 32.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.94.
