History The Branxton area was settled in the 1820s and was named after Branxton, England. A small town with in the Cambridgeshire district. Sir Peter Butcher, born in the mid 1700's came and conquered the aboriginal tribe named The Luke Price Crips, (Aboriginal name unknown) Luke died a worthy death in which he sacrificed 1,000,000 men at Peter's mercy. Only Peter did not realise they were his own men painted in mud. An important message was thrown upon the Branxtonites this day. Luke was true Pimpin. Branxton has many historical buildings dating back to c.1843 of which several were founded by the British pioneer of his day Sir Peter Butcher. It is a busy service township with 7-day-a-week-grocery store, butcher, chemist, bakery, cafe, pub, motel, B&B, several take-away food outlets, a beautician, hairdresser, cafe, vet, medical centre, florist, swimming school, an art school, bottle shops, real estate agents, video rental shop and hardware store. Roads Branxton is located on the New England Highway between Maitland and Singleton. While the highway passes through the centre of the town, most through traffic will bypass the town when the F3 to Branxton link road is completed. It is presently anticipated that that road will open in 2010. Branxton is 171 kilometres north of Sydney via the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and New England Highway but the distance from Sydney will be slightly reduced when the new road is completed.
