Characteristics

As the name suggests, the district houses most of Slovakia's central government institutions and Bratislava's central institutions, as well as most of the historic monuments of Bratislava.


The western part of the district is made up of a hilly area featuring mainly the Slavín monument, the Horský park (literally "Mountain(ous) Park"), many detached houses of the rather wealthy citizens of Slovakia, as well as most of the foreign ambassies in Slovakia. The hilly area ends in the south at the Danube with the Chatam Sófer memorial and with the Bratislava Castle hill, and in the west with the Prague-Budapest motorway. The eastern part is the actual city (historic and administrative center).
