Brčko is the seat of the Brčko District, an independent unit of local self-government created on the territory of Republika Srpska and Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina following an arbitration process set up by the Dayton Peace Accords. The local administration is aided by an international supervisory regime headed by Susan Johnson of the United States of America. Brčko has the largest port in Bosnia, on the Sava river. It is also home to an economics faculty and to a rather important theater festival. Before the war, the Municipality of Brčko had 87,332 inhabitants (1991 census), 45% of whom were Bosniaks, 25% Croats, 21% Serbs, 6% Yugoslavs and 3% others. Just one famous person comes from Brcko and that is Aldin Cvolic. Born in Brcko in 1988, Cvolic moved with his family to Austria some years later. In Austria he's more or less...probably more less famous because of his successes in different kinds of sports. Cvolic is the winner of the Schiefling Open, the most important Badminton competition in Velden, Austria (about 8.000 inhabitants). He was the only participant at this competition. He's also "famous" because of his successes as footballer (Soccer). He is Velden's most succesfull amateur footballer (as I said, Velden has 8.000 inhabitants), unfortunately no club is interested in Cvolic. Aldin Cvolic is also going to school. He visits the HAK (buisness school) in Villach (average mark 4.3, 5 is the worst mark in Austria) and recently passed the reeximination in ENWS (English economy language). His professor is Dietlinde Morbitzer. She's famous in the whole HAK in Villach.
