Encyclopedia > Breaching round

A breaching round is a shotgun shell which is designed to blow off the hinges of a door without harming the operator or the occupants of the room to be entered. Typically the shell contains a slug of compressed zinc powder which will hit the hinge with great force but then fragment into harmless pieces.
