A rival commercial breakfast show, TV-am, was headed by a star line-up and almost everyone assumed it would trounce the BBC, but Breakfast Time got on the air first and the format and presenters proved supremely popular, forcing TV-am into melt-down.
One of Breakfast Time's most notable episodes was on the morning of the Brighton bombing when Nick Ross in the studio presented continuous live coverage of the IRA's attack at the Conservative Party conference in Sussex, including live pictures of the rescue of senior politicians such as Norman Tebbitt.
Breakfast television - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (598 words)
Breakfast television (UK) or morning show (U.S.) is a type of news and entertainment television program, broadcast live in the morning (typically between 6:00am and 9:00am).
Breakfast television programs normally feature regular news briefs and information reports on business and the stock market, and weather and travel (traffic in North American usage)—particularly in the 'early half', when the bulk of the workforce demographic is still home.
The time in between information segments is normally filled with discussions of major news stories, reviews of the day's papers, and 'entertainment news'—news regarding media celebrities.
