Established and well into her career at the ABC affiliate KGTV Channel 10 in San Diego, Walker decided to go public with her ectrodactyly, a rare congenital deformity: her fingers and toes are fused together. She previously kept her deformed hands hidden inside a pair of glove-like prosthetic hands. With her hands now clearly visible, she continued her successful newscasting career at KGTV, moving up to a larger market at WCBS Channel 2 in New York City. In September of 1988 she joined KCBS-TV, the local network affiliate in Los Angeles, anchoring the station's nightly newscasts with Jim Lampley. During the following year the two anchors, married but separated from their spouses, developed a romantic relationship that was chronicled in detail by the vast Los Angeles celebrity-gossip media. Lampley and Walker were married in the spring of 1990. In October of 1991 the two made news of their own by petitioning the Federal Communications Commission to censure Los Angeles radio station KFI-AM for a program sharply criticizing them for becoming parents to a son born with Walker's ectrodactyly (her daughter from a previous marriage also inherited the condition). KFI host Jane Norris claimed that Lampley and Walker acted irresponsibly by bringing into the world a child consigned to what she considered a poor quality of life. The anchors asserted in a press conference that they were not questioning the host's right to her opinions but criticizing her failure to present a balanced discussion with opposing viewpoints. Walker also chafed at the idea that a stranger would evaluate her newborn's "quality of life." The FCC ultimately rejected the petition. Walker's anchor tenure at KCBS-TV coincided with such notable Los Angeles-area events as the April-May 1992 riots following the not-guilty verdict for the Los Angeles Police Department officers in the Rodney King beating case and the January 1994 Northridge earthquake. She left the station in May 1994. KGTV is the ABC television affiliate in San Diego, California. ...

Sabina appeared in three episodes during the 2005 season. She showcases her webbed hands as the series probes public attitudes toward persons with highly visible disabilities. In Walker's own words: "I really get to be me." Walker based Sabina on characters she knew existed in the 1920s and 1930s carnival sideshows with names like Lobster Girl or Lobster Boy. These were typically the best jobs persons with ectrodactyly could have, with most others being hidden away. This is a list of television-related events in 2005. ...
